A Smarter Way to Live a Healthier Life

~by Dorothy Watson

Committing to getting healthy doesn’t mean hiring a personal trainer, shopping for food at high-end markets, or checking out prices for a Peloton. A healthy lifestyle doesn’t depend on having disposable income. In fact, many of the lifestyle choices that come with wealth, like frequent red meat consumption and long hours at a corporate desk, can lead to poor health.

The Lotus Counseling and Wellness Center presents the following suggestions for how you can improve your life by improving your lifestyle.

A Holistic Approach to Health

A holistic approach to health is defined as the practice of taking care of yourself and your body, mind, and spirit. There are many benefits to this approach. It's not just about physical wellness but also about mental and spiritual well-being.

Yoga has been around for thousands of years and is one of the most popular holistic practices. It is a mind-body practice that promotes wellness, healing, and well-being. It has been proven to reduce stress levels and improve the quality of sleep. It also helps in reducing pain and anxiety, improving mood, increasing energy levels and focus, and lowering blood pressure.

Massage is a low-cost treatment that has been shown to provide a wide range of health benefits. These benefits include reduced pain, improved sleep quality, and increased immunity. Other benefits include promoting relaxation, reducing muscle tension, increasing circulation, and improved oxygenation of the blood and lymphatic drainage.

A Smarter Way to Eat

Today, the average American consumes more than 2,000 calories each day. The issue with this is that the majority of these calories come from processed foods and drinks. The convenience of fast-food chains is one of the driving factors behind the increased popularity of these unhealthy alternatives.

The CDC stresses a daily diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products. It should include a variety of protein foods such as seafood, lean meats, poultry, and eggs, and is low in added sugars, sodium, saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol.

Exercise the Smart Way

Swimming, bicycling, and walking are all low-cost ways to exercise that have tremendous health benefits. Swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout because it helps you burn calories without having to break a sweat. It also helps you build endurance and improve muscle strength and tone. Bicycling benefits include weight loss, increased bone density, and improved cardiovascular health. Walking is a great way to get in shape and improve your health. It has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure and can be enjoyed by everyone from children to seniors.

Making Wellness Your Business

You may want to turn your healthy lifestyle into a business. All you need is the right mindset and the right skill set. If you are passionate about your health and wellness, then why not start your own health and wellness business?

There are many ways to make money as a health and wellness entrepreneur, such as opening a bicycle sales and repair shop, creating blogs, podcasts, or YouTube content that you can monetize. You could make a business out of preparing and selling healthy, organically grown food and meals.

Create memorable and unique banners for your business brand. You can use these banners on everything from your social media pages (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc.) and your website. Fortunately, you don’t need to be a graphic designer to put one together. An online banner generator will let you put together a cool banner using templates, which you can then customize to match your business and brand.

Shop Smart

Whether it’s a new bike, upgraded kitchen appliances, or the perfect yoga mat, it’s best to do some research first to ensure you’re getting the best value and the safest product for you and your family. Read in-depth product reviews from unbiased sources before making any new purchases.

A healthier way of life means an improved quality of life. Taking a holistic approach to your health, focusing on smarter diet choices and purchases, and increased exercise can add years to your life. And starting your own business can not only be good for you and your finances, but if you’re promoting healthier habits, you can be changing the lives and futures of a great many people.
